It’s a heavy, heavy hand got me pinned beneath it’s thumb
It’s no reason I can see, for the season that’s begun
It’s dark where I’m standing and I’m standing in the sun

It’s feeling of hunger when my plate overflows
It’s smelling something sour when smelling of a rose
It’s voices all around me saying snap out of it, son
It’s everything needs doing not a damn thing getting done

It’s water risin’ ‘round me when the rain ain’t fell in years
It’s a soul that needs to cry when the water’s left the tears
It’s being blind to anything beyond my swirling cloud
It’s standing all alone while standing in a crowd

It’s hoping for a breeze of change to blow my way
It’s a dear God, please, a hundred times a day
It’s a shameless mix of begging, bartering and prayers
It’s climbing to a locked door at the bottom of the stairs
